MEADOW SANCTUARIES

Meadows have a purpose–– they are the breeding ground for fireflies, bluebirds, swooping tree swallows and fluttering monarch and tiger tail butterflies. It’s living things are its sense of place. The summer nights shine with twinkling male fireflies that cover the treetops watching for the signals of the flashing females in the tall meadow grasses. I feel the joy of the fledgling baby birds flying for the first time from their meadow birdhouses. It gladdens the heart. I walk the meadows day and night and now feel that after 50 years of living together we are one. The meadow’s welfare is now my welfare. I have been won over by the beauty and life force of its plants and animals.
